Giving "chicken breast" new meaning, controversy surrounding Miss California brought a unique enhancement technique to light. Apparently, beauty queens stop at nothing to boost their confidence, including the use of so-called chicken cutlets.
Miss California gained significant notoriety during the recent Miss USA pageant, with her comments against gay marriage. But the haze of controversy surrounding Carrie Prejean keeps getting thicker. Recently, pageant officials admitted to paying for Prejean’s breast augmentation, and in an odd turn, offered a glimpse into the backstage world of primping beauty pageant contestants, by discussing other ways in which beauty queens might “enhance” their body shape. This apparently, includes the use of “chicken cutlets.” During an interview on the CBS Morning show, Keith Lewis, co-director of the Miss California organization, confirmed that Ms. Prejean wanted the implants to help put her “in the best possible confidence” for the Miss USA competition. He also talked about the non-surgical options pageant contestants have for improving their body “proportions” during the swimsuit competitions.“There’s plenty of ways of getting to more proportion without doing breast implants,” Mr. Lewis said. “Many of the girls use chicken cutlets.” What? “You use chicken cutlets,” he said. “You use tape. You use anything that you can to enhance the line. There’s lots of tricks of the trade.” Does this mean that pageant contestants risk salmonella infection by placing raw poultry into their bras? No. As it turns out, a “chicken cutlet” is the common term used for a silicone bra-insert used to create the illusion of larger breasts. Apparently, the inserts got their name from the fact that they look like cuts of boneless chicken. Seems Miss California could have given her state’s poutry farmers a much needed “boost” by sticking with chicken cutlets, instead of going “whole hog,” and getting plastic surgery.
