Transcript

If you’re allergic to latex condoms, it doesn’t mean that you have to look for alternative birth control. LATEX condoms are the least expensive, most available, and most reliable condoms, but there ARE other dependable options for pregnancy prevention AND STI protection.Polyurethane condoms are made of plastic, are thinner and slightly less flexible than latex and may require a little extra lubrication. They’re thinner and DO cost a bit more than latex.Polyisoprene condoms are the newest non-latex alternative. These condoms supposedly feel more natural than polyurethane. On Screen Text: Polyisoprene condoms are actually thicker than polyurethane condomsLambskin condoms are another natural-feeling alternative and DO prevent pregnancy. They DON’T however, protect against STIs, so are ONLY advisable if you’re in a stable, STI-free relationship. Now, those are just MALE condom options. Both types of FDA approved FEMALE condom have NO latex allergens AND have a 95 percent effectiveness rate against pregnancy. It can be a bit tricky to master, but some couples say they PREFER the female condom to the standard male condom. So, allergies or not, you’ve got NO excuses to NOT have safe sex.
